After suffering for so long, sometimes we realize that the devil we know is better than the devil we don't. Sometimes, we realize that we are weak, hapless, and lost. But the throbbing flesh of our hearts consists of the squelching meat of spirited prowess. It only takes a single step. And then, your journey begins.

For :iconxxaurorastudios:'s 'Bravery' contest. I hate explaining my artwork, but this one is very symbolism heavy. I know what you must be thinking. The main character is running away from the brooding motif, that doesn't quite equal bravery. The thing about it is, this is the manifestation of anyone out there who has spent a good chunk of their life feeding their demons and nurturing the negativity and evil inside of them. To me, it's not brave to just sit in the sludge of misery for the rest of one's life. Real bravery, is to rise above such a hideous, harmful mentality, and look toward the light even though your world is drenched in darkness. The subject of this piece is leaving the past of their shadows behind, moving on with the potential their existence can bring. The scars the past leaves remind us that what we experienced was real, but it takes more courage to be joyful in today's world than to be weighed down by the planet's woes.

I listened to many songs while I worked on this (took freaking eight hours, man), but I completed it whilst I listened to Do As Infinity's 'Yesterday and Today', hence the text upon the piece. I figured it was a good personification of how much disposition it takes to face the past, present, and future.

I really hope this doesn't get stolen. Because then I'll have to perform a decapitation, and I'm wearing a brand new outfit. That would just be a nuisance.

Anyways, enjoy. <3

I think the pose speaks for itself. He isn't running away. He's working at it... And there are always ties to the past you can't escape. The trick is in pushing on anyway. The hint of the Norse mythology is kinda neat, too...
